Itinerary

Day: 1
Location: Kampala
Arrive at Kajjansi and take a helicopter ride north-east to Jinja.  On the way you will fly over the tropical forest of Mabira, sugar plantations and land on the outskirts of Jinja town - a haven for adrenalin junkies. Here, your adventurous spirit will take over and you will be able to bungee jump, kayak, jet boat, mountain bike, horse ride, fish, quad bike, river board or white water raft.  If you are looking for a slower pace, then you can visit the “Source of the Nile” or buy a locally spun kikois (soft African fabrics) from “Kilombera”, seeing how the fabrics are weaved.

Sit and relax with a picnic lunch overlooking the Victoria Nile.

In the afternoon, take the helicopter downstream over the new Bujagali Falls Dam and many of the Victoria Nile’s rapids, passing hippos and crocodiles sunbathing on its banks. The river flows in and out of Lake Kyoga and its papyrus swamps, continuing towards Karuma Falls, all the time gathering speed to surge forward through a natural rock cleft causing the spectacular Murchison Falls.

Fly over the savannah to Pakuba airstrip and your awaiting transport to your Delta Campsite.  On the way you will see many of the Park’s animals – elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hartebeest, waterbuck etc. Relax at this riverside camp and enjoy the sights and sounds of the African bush.

Day: 2
Location: Murchison Falls National Park

After a leisurely breakfast you will be collected by a private launch, yours for the day and transported through the many waterways of the papyrus banked Victoria Nile Delta.  Here you will discover sand banks full of giant Nile crocodiles basking in the sun, watch elephants close up and observe schools of hippos wallowing in the waters.

After a picnic lunch on the boat, all the while being gently cooled by the Delta breezes, you will motor slowly upstream, passing water inlets (ideal for fishing), wooded areas and the savannah on the distant hills.   Eventually you will be met with a thunderous noise and the most awe inspiring sight of Murchison Falls.   The top of the falls is where the river surges through a natural gap in the rift valley wall to fall 40m below.  This colossal force of water creates a dramatic natural spectacle.

Afternoon tea or sundowners on the return trip must surely complete this wondrous day.

Being able to stop where and when you want with your boat enables you to see the most amazing sights on the river – African fish eagles fishing,  bee-eaters bombarding a hungry monitor lizard which has come to raid their nests on the cliffs above, saddle billed storks catching frogs, the elusive shoebill stork or a flash of colour from a malachite kingfisher as it dives into the water….

Day: 3
Location: Murchison Falls National Park

An early wakeup call and out into the dawn and the Buligi Circuit in search of returning hyenas from night time hunting, lions looking for a Uganda Kob breakfast or buffaloes searching for that muddy watering hole.  Large families of sixty or more giraffes can be observed in the valleys with the occasional sightings of the shy Patas monkey, the fastest of all primates with speeds of 35mph.

After lunch, a drive to the top of the falls on the north bank to view where this cascade disappears over the rock cleft.  Return to Pakuba airstrip for a late afternoon flight in the “Great Lakes” over the park and falls.  A last bird’s eye view in the late afternoon light and an “Out of Africa” moment.

Day: 4
Location: Kajjansi

An early wakeup call and out down the Victoria and Queen’s track in search of leopards, lions and elephants, returning for a later breakfast.  After packing up, a game drive through to Pakuba airstrip and your flight back to Kajjansi.

On arrival you will be met by a representative of Safari Skies.
